The Stillness of Mar Menor

Separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a 21-kilometer sandbar, the Mar Menor is famed for its mirror-still, warm waters and therapeutic muds. Its sheltered ecosystem creates a sanctuary for sailing, wellness, and quiet seaside leisure.

The Costa Cálida: from port city to fishing village

The Costa Cálida isn't one long strip of hotels — it's a patchwork of places, each with its own rhythm. From the marble columns of Cartagena to the stillness of the Mar Menor: here are a few of the places that make the region what it is.

Cartagena

Three thousand years of history, stacked between two hills. The Teatro Romano still sits there as if the last performance was only yesterday, naval harbours border tapas bars in alleys once walked by Carthaginian traders. Cruise ships dock here weekly, and yet Cartagena never feels like an open-air museum — it lives, breathes, and smells of fresh fish at the morning market.

Los Alcázares

On the edge of the Mar Menor lies this town where the water is shallow, warm and mirror-still. Families stroll the boulevard in the evening, the smell of grilled sardines hanging in the air. Los Alcázares isn't a spectacle — it's the place where you slow down.

San Pedro del Pinatar

Pink salt lakes, sulphur mud that people smear up to their necks in, and flamingos that couldn't care less. San Pedro, as the locals call it, is the region's green edge — nature park on one side, fishing harbour on the other.

Cabo de Palos

Where the Mar Menor meets the Mediterranean, a lighthouse has stood watch over divers and fishing boats for more than a century. The story continues underwater: the Islas Hormigas are considered one of the finest diving spots in all of Europe. Cabo de Palos itself stays small, rocky and unpretentious — the kind of place where dinner starts with that morning's catch.

La Manga del Mar Menor

A 21-kilometre strip of sand between two seas, waves on one side and calm, warm water on the other. In summer, La Manga is all buzz — yachts, terraces, watersports — offering, at any moment of the day, a choice between two entirely different seas.
